Privacy Policy

Your notes stay yours.

Last updated 29 October 2026

Drawer is a notes app for macOS. Your notes stay on your Mac. There is no account to create, no server storing your writing, and nothing for anyone to breach. This policy explains, plainly, exactly how Drawer handles your data.

No account

Nothing to sign up for. Your name and picture are labels kept on your Mac.

No tracking

No analytics, no crash reports, no usage data. Ever.

No internet by default

Drawer blocks every connection, unless you turn on writing help from Claude.

Files you own

Plain Markdown files in Documents, readable by any app.

No data collection

Drawer does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Drawer has no servers. We have no access to your notes, titles, folders, comments, or anything else you write.

Local storage only

Your notes, folders, pictures, earlier versions of each note, templates and Trash live in the Drawer folder in your Documents, as plain Markdown files and ordinary folders. Your preferences, such as your name, picture and sounds, live in Drawer's app data on your Mac.

If you back up or sync your Documents folder, for example with iCloud Drive or Time Machine, your notes go wherever those copies go, under those services' terms.

No analytics or tracking

Drawer contains no analytics SDKs, no crash reporters, and no third party tracking libraries. We do not track how you use the app, which features you open, or how often you launch it. There are no cookies, no advertising identifiers, and no profiles built about you.

Works offline

Drawer is built to run fully offline. It blocks every connection to the internet and never phones home. Links you click open in your browser, outside Drawer. The only exception is the optional writing help described below, and only when you ask for it.

Locked notes

A locked note's writing is encrypted on your Mac with AES-256, using a key made from your password. Drawer never stores your password. If you turn on Touch ID, the key is sealed in your Mac's Keychain. Locked notes lock again when you close them, when your Mac sleeps, or after a while idle.

Titles and pictures in locked notes are not encrypted, only the writing. If you forget the password and Touch ID is off, a locked note cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

Writing help with Claude

Writing help is off unless you turn it on. When you ask Claude for help, Drawer sends Anthropic only the text you selected (or the text before the cursor, to continue writing) and your request. Nothing else is ever sent, and never a locked note.

Through your Claude plan, Anthropic handles that text like your Claude chats, under your claude.ai privacy settings. With your own API key, Anthropic's commercial terms apply. Your API key is sealed in your Mac's Keychain and never stored in your notes.

Deleting your data

Delete a note and it goes to Trash; empty Trash and it is gone from your Mac. To remove everything, delete the Drawer folder in Documents and Drawer's app data in Library / Application Support / Drawer. Drawer keeps no copy anywhere else.

In one sentence

Drawer keeps your notes on your Mac as files you own, collects nothing about you, and only touches the internet when you personally ask Claude for help.
